Our 2017 Training Schedule Is Out!

Plumbing, heating and HVAC are constantly evolving trades. As equipment becomes more sophisticated, education on latest and greatest developments becomes more important. Also, as new individuals enter the trades they need to learn the essentials so that they can become proficient, competent and profitable. This is why Emerson Swan offers training courses throughout the year on various subjects from the basics of hydronic piping to trouble shooting modulating-condensing boilers. Training courses are system oriented and primarily focused on the installing contractor, but there is always something to be gained for engineers, designers and wholesale distributors. We want to help you to understand how systems work so that you can do the job right the first time, maximize profits and reduce call backs from unsatisfied customers.

Upcoming Classes in 2017

All classes our held at Emerson Swan's office in Randolph, MA. Lunch will be served at all full day classes. To learn more about our courses and register to attend, please visit our website: http://www.emersonswan.com/resources/training.html

Bring Compact To A New Level With The Lifebreath METRO Series

The new Lifebreath METRO Series offers superior performance and functionality in a small, compact size. The Series consists of 2 HRV’s and an ERV. It is ideally suited for high-rise condos, apartments and townhomes, fitting in bulkheads and drop down ceilings. Their small size makes for an easy installation in tight spaces.

The new Metro 120 ERV/HRV provides factory-set balancing suitable in most typical installation settings! A balance of +/-10% between supply and exhaust air flows is easily and automatically maintained for static pressures that differ by 0.2wc or less between an external static range of 0.3wc to 0.8wc.

The METRO Series has been designed with a removable motor and electronic panel for easy maintenance and repairs, plus a swing open ebox cover for quick access to circuit board and dip switches. Also available are optional white metal ceiling access panels in 3 sizes for easy servicing.

Our METRO HRVs (METRO 120F & METRO 120D) feature the patented aluminum HEX core, which carries a lifetime warranty, recirculating damper or fan defrost versions available, and offers multi-direction drain connections.

The METRO 120ERV offers a highly efficient fresh air ventilation solution that helps manage excess moisture and maximizes energy recovery during both heating and cooling seasons. The METRO 120 ERV also does not require a drain connection.

The METRO series is a complete line up to support any job and can be paired with many of our Lifebreath controls, wireless timer options and hoods, including our newly certified dual hood.

Magnetic Filter Installation: Prolonging Boiler and Component Life

Fernox TF1 Magnetic Filter

This is a photo of a Fernox TF1 magnetic filter 4 weeks after installation of a brand new Viessmann CU3A boiler with copper baseboard radiation. The streak marks on the filter body show the filter was leaking from being loaded with debris it had removed from the system.

Magnetic Filter Disassembled

This photo shows the magnetite, sludge and debris that adhered to the magnet inside the TF1 filter. This is only a small portion of what was removed from the system, the rest remained inside the filter body. This is only 4 weeks after a new boiler installation. This sludge was not new- it was existing from the old system inside all of the radiators and piping.

Magnet

You can see the thickness of the magnetite and sludge here- the width of the magnet is visible at the bottom of the photo. Without this magnetic filter, this sludge and debris would stay in the system forever and wreak havoc on all of the boiler components-especially the ferrous components (piping, valves, circulators). This sludge is good job security for heating technicians- it ensures we will have to be back often to replace leaking components on the system.

Water Quality

This bucket shows the water and sludge that was removed from the filter body alone. Again, this is after only 4 weeks of a brand new system. Imagine what the water quality is like after 1, 2 or 5 years. The filter is easily cleaned and serviced. We also treated this water with a special cleaner and protectant after this visit to start off with clean water. The protectant will stop the water from getting to this point in the first place.

Taco Introduces The LeakBreaker Water Heater Shut-Off

The Taco LeakBreaker (model #LB-075-H-1LF) is a water heater leak protection device that protects against flood damage from a leaking water heater. This resettable, testable protection device can easily be installed on any style water heater to shut-off the incoming water supply, preventing additional water flow to a damaged water heater.

The LeakBreaker consists of a control unit, valve with actuator, and sensor. And all components are prewired to simplify the installation process. It features an audible alarm with mute, 2-color LED status light, and will operate on batteries or power supply.
